Rustam Minnikhanov: World Islamic Economic Forum and KazanSummit could be mutually useful

On November 21, at the exhibition of the 13th World Islamic Economic Forum, Tatarstan Investment Development Agency presented the Tatarstan’s stand, which featured separate zones for demonstration of Made in Tatarstan industrial clusters and Invest in Tatarstan infrastructure, an interactive screen with information to promote the 10th International Economic Summit “Russia – the Islamic World: KazanSummit” to be held on May 10-12, 2018 in Kazan, a meeting room for 12 people, an open area to hold talks and a lounge area offering national food produced by the Tubetei Company, a regional national food manufacturer. 

Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov told Prime Minister of Malaysia  Najib Razak, who came up to the exhibition stand of Tatarstan, about socio-economic situation and potential of the republic in oil and petrochemical industry, automotive industry, aircraft and shipbuilding sectors. He also made a short presentation of the regional special economic zones, including Innopolis, Alabuga, Naberezhnye Chelny Advanced Development Territory and Innokam Innovative Territorial Production Cluster. Najib Razak was interested in the republic's capabilities in shipbuilding and helicopter production.

Tatarstan President also held a number of official and business meetings on the sidelines of the forum.

At his meeting with Governor of Sarawak Abdul Taib bin Mahmud, Minnikhanov invited the governor to start acquaintance with our country by visiting Tatarstan. Abdul Taib bin Mahmud asked the president about the history of the republic and its ethnic and religious composition. They agreed to develop cooperation in the sphere of Islamic education, mutually useful exchange of students and teachers of religious educational institutions.

At his meeting with Chief Minister of Sarawak Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Abang Haji Openg, Minnikhanov called Sarawak one of the motors of development of Malaysia and noted its similarity with Tatarstan. He invited the minister to attend the Kazan-Summit-2018 to look into industrial capabilities of the republic.

A meeting with Iran's Minister of Communication and Information Technology Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi, who said that he would like to discuss joint projects with Russian representatives responsible for the development of IT technologies, was very productive as well. Minnikhanov immediately contacted Minister of Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation Nikolai Nikiforov and the parties tentatively agreed to consider the possibilities of holding a Russian-Iranian inter-governmental commission on information and communication technology in Kazan.

During his meeting with Chairman of the World Islamic Economic Forum Foundation Musa Hitam, Minnikhanov suggested holding one of the forthcoming events during the KazanSummit. It would be mutually beneficial to join organizational efforts to expand the geography of both the Malaysian Forum and the KazanSummit. The leader of the Forum’s Foundation liked the idea. Musa Hitama noted that they are currently looking for new ideas for the development of this discussion platform and the proposal is very attractive. Minnikhanov stressed that this issue should be worked out by all parties and discussed with the leaders of the two countries. Tatarstan President invited senior executives of the World Islamic Economic Forum Foundation to attend the KazanSummit to be held on May 10-12 in 2018 for a more detailed study of the Russian site.

Meetings of Tatarstan President with Ministry of National Development Planning of Indonesia Bambang Brodjonegoro and Advisor to the President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Al Habbash were informative as well.
