23 January 2018, Tuesday

On January 23, speaking at a summing-up meeting of the regional State Committee on Tourism on the results of work in 2017, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin said that tourism industry has become one of the most dynamically developing branches of Tatarstan economy over the last years.

In his speech Pesoshin emphasized that infrastructure development, holding major international events and positive investment environment allowed Tatarstan to become one of the leaders in the development of tourism in Russia and over three million tourists visited Tatarstan in the reported year.

Historical sites such as the ancient city of Bolgar and the island-town of Sviyazhsk are popular with the guests of the republic. Half a million tourists visit each of these sites, he added.

Speaking about the quality and level of service at the tourism facilities, Pesoshin urged to remember that the number of foreign tourists is increasing. “In this regard, we should care about compliance with international standards at all facilities of tourist industry. Impression of our region depends on the level of hospitality that guests get in our republic. The work in this direction must be organized constantly,” the head of Tatarstan Government said.

Pesoshin asked to pay special emphasis on development of domestic tourist flow. “This is ecotourism, rural tourism, event tourism. The mass media have a particular role in popularization of domestic tourism, in particular, opportunities of internet resources,” he concluded.

Development of domestic tourism is one of the strategic initiatives of Russian President Vladimir Putin. There is the Federal Targeted Programme for the Development of domestic and inbound tourism to be implemented over 2011-2018 in Russia.

Modern infrastructure is established within this programme under the terms of public-private partnership     in the regions of Russia. Russian President emphasizes that domestic Russian tourism has enormous potential and it is necessary to continue aggressively working in the development of infrastructure.
