Rustam Minnikhanov meets leading officials of Tatar community in Sakhalin

On September 24, at his meeting with leading officials of the Tatar community in Sakhalin, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said: “We appreciate your contribution to the enrichment of our common spiritual values. We all share the care and strive for preserving the Tatar language, culture and traditions of our nation.”

Rustam Minnikhanov thanked Sakhalin leadership and the Governor of the Sakhalin region Oleg Kozhemyako for creating favourable conditions for the preservation and development of Tatar culture.

The president briefly told about programmes and projects being implemented in Tatarstan, which are aimed at uniting Tatars living far from their small motherland.

Rustam Minnikhanov also noted the contribution of the World Congress of Tatars to uniting Tatars all over the world.

Moreover, the creation of square and installment of the monument to the great Tatar poet Gabdulla Tukai in one of the cities of the Sakhalin region were discussed during the meeting.

Rustam Minnikhanov informed that much attention in paid to science and education in Tatarstan, and invited young people from Sakhalin to enter Tatarstan universities.

Participants of the meeting discussed the organization of the Sabantui holiday in Sakhalin.
